Paul Gascoigne: Jury continue deliberations on Thursday in sexual assault trial

The jury in the trial of soccer star Paul Gascoigne, who is accused of sexually assaulting a woman on a railway, will keep their deliberations.
The midfielder simplifies the offence, stating it wasnt sexual, and that he kissed the stranger to improve her confidence once he heard somebody call her weight.
The jury, who had been shipped out on Wednesday, were advised they can look at a alternative count of assault.
Teesside Crown Court has discovered that the complainant was about a York to Newcastle train in August 2018 when Gascoigne, that was loud and swearing, drunkenly sat down next to her, tapped her arm, grabbed her by the cheeks and planted a sloppy kiss on her lips.
In her speech to the jury Michelle Heeley QC, defending, told jurors the prior footballer and a girl who wasnt expecting it and did not like it kissed, however that did not make him a sexual offender.
Talking about the alternative charge, she explained:You may believe, 14 weeks after this episode, this is really a sexual assaultnothing.
Due to his illustrious international career, she said a kiss can mean a lot of things, including a partywhen you score one of the best aims England has ever observed, from Scotland in Euro96.
She stated the kiss lasted two or three seconds, on a packed train, and was not preceded by anylecherous remark, touching or touching.
Miss Heeley stated:You cannot be sure Mr Gascoigne had a sexual goal.
He has been consistent throughout, he did not kiss (the complainant) for another motive in his head than to assure her that she wasnt ugly or fat.
She said it might have beenmisplaced, but it was not sexual.
In his closing speech, prosecutor William Mousley QC stated Gascoigne had lied about that someone had mistreated the girl, and what happened.
He said:There is an obvious reason as to why he cried and thats because he knows hes guilty of sexual attack but wishes to put up a smokescreen, lead to a diversion, indicate it was not as it so obviously was.
Mr Mousley said of this kiss:It had been an unpleasant attack, also it was an act of kindness. Guilty when the former, maybe not guilty if it had been the latter.
After she had been kissed, the girl, who cannot be named, was shocked and also a fellow passenger challenged Gascoigne, saying:What you have just completed is sexual abuse
Police later traced Gascoigne to some resort in Jesmond, Newcastle, and when an officer talked to him about the phone, prior to detain, the footballer said:I understand what its around, I kissed a fat lass.
If he gave evidence, Gascoigne explained he had been trying to guarantee his alleged victim later he claimed to have overheard someone mention of herYou dont want a photograph with her, shes ugly and fat.
He talked of his struggle with his weight, bullying suffered by family members and struggles with bulimia.
Gascoigne said that he arrived and sat next to the woman, telling hertake no notice of what they state andlisten, you are not fat and nasty.
He denied being drunk at the time, telling the jury that he had undergone an operation in Australia to have pellets implanted into his belly which would make himspew up if he drank spirits.
The defence revealed the jury pictures of Gascoigne being kissed by additional folks, including Diana, Princess of Wales, as well footballers Ian Wright, Steve Bull, Ally McCoist and Wayne Rooney.
